Anderson officials say a Hartwell man was shot approximately eight times and killed Sunday in what the sheriff’s office is considering a murder.
Ricky Bowers, 49 from Hartwell, was pronounced dead at the scene after being shot in the backyard of his friend’s house, according to a release from Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore’s office.
Detectives charged Anderson resident Dustin Marett with murder and possession of a weapon during a crime of violence.
The release said Medshore EMS, Anderson County EMS, and Anderson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting incident at 725 Woodmont Circle in Anderson around 6:25 p.m. Bowers was found dead in the backyard, a release from the sheriff’s office said.
An arrest warrant for Marett said that he, “with malice aforethought, caused the death of the victim Ricky Bowers by shooting the victim approximately eight times with a 45 automatic handgun.”
The sheriff’s office said it would not be providing further information “due to the nature of the investigation.”
Any person with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.
