Deborah (Debbie) Chappelear Johnson, age 65, of Lavonia, passed away Monday, October 7, 2019 at her home, after a lengthy battle with dementia. Born October 14, 1953, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Ray and Mildred Grubbs Chappelear. She retired from State of Georgia as Information Specialist at Georgia Welcome Center. She was of the Methodist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters: Arthurlene Ethridge, Jean Scott, Catherine Chappelear and Rebecca Dowis; and brothers: Kenneth Chappelear, Bobby Chappelear, Dale Chappelear, Mike Chappelear and McRoss Chappelear.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 46 years and dedicated caregiver, Dan Johnson and dedicated caregiver, Nancy Dyer. Also, the late Sara Hill was a dedicated caregiver until her untimely death. She is survived by her beloved cat, Becky. Also surviving are sisters: Bonnie Elliott and Jane King.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 10, at the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia with the Rev. Courtney Umbehant and Dr. Joe Renfro officiating. Burial will follow in Hart Memorial Park.
Casual dress is suggested by the family. Any memorials can be made to Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter, Shepherd Center 2020 Peachtree Road NW, Atlanta, GA 30309 Attn: Memorials, Power of Hope, or TJ and Friends.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Tommy Carlton, Bob Cathey, Jimmy Foster, James Moore, Ronnie Roach, and Charles Stovall. Honorary pallbearers will be: the Hardee's Breakfast Club and the Hardee's Breakfast employees.
